Mr. Charles Nanayakkara
With the end of World War 2 in 1945, and the uptick in leisure travel, the Late Charles Nanayakkara had a vision to connect Sri Lanka to the World. Hence with a leap of faith he expanded his thriving inland trucking and logistics business and incorporated Ceylon Carriers (Travel Services) Ltd in 1964. Further given Sri Lanka’s prime location in the Indian Ocean, connecting the West and East, the Late Charles Nanayakkara saw the potential in inbound & outbound travel / tour services, and went on to earn Pioneer status in Sri Lanka’s Travel and Tourism Industry. His legacy was then passed on to his Son Mr. Udaya Nanayakkara in 1981.



Mr. Udaya Nanayakkara was the founder President of IATA agents’ association in Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Association of Travel and Tourism (SLATT). He was also a Past President of the Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAAL) and the Vice President of the United Federation Travel Agents Association Worldwide (UFTAA) the global umbrella organization for the travel agency industry.
He was appointed as Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board (SLTB) in 2005 and was faced with the revival of tourism due to challenges faced such as the Tsunami in 2006 and the end of the 30 year long Civil conflict in 2009. He was thereafter appointed as Chairman to the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion in Bureau (SLTPB) in 2017 and continued promoting Sri Lanka’s rich culture and beauty to the World.
As the Founder President of the Sri Lanka Association of Travel and Tourism (SLATT), together with other key industry personnel was responsible for launching extensive promotional campaigns in regional tourism generating markets, especially India, for both general and MICE tourism, SLATT objective was to lobby support and sustain stability during the crisis periods and strived to unite the industry under one umbrella and help the Government in its tourism promotion and development.

Joined as an Executive Director of Mackwoods Ltd., in 1989 and served as the Managing Director of Mackwods Travels Ltd, Mackwoods Energy Plc, Mackwoods Healthcare (Pvt) Ltd and Mackwoods Insurance Brokers (Pvt) Ltd.
Mackwoods Travels Limited was the travel host for the Royal Asiatic Society (London) and the Commonwealth Society (UK) and arranged tours in Sri Lanka and Maldive Islands for its members and their families from 1990 till 2015. Mackwoods Travels in collaboration with a leading local Conventions company handled the Kiwanis Asia Pacific Conference in Sri Lanka which brought over 600 delegates into Colombo and was instrumental in handling and organising the post conference tours for the delegates. Mackwoods Travels also handled the visit of HRH Prince Charles visit to Nuwaraeliya and Kandy during the Commonwealth Heads of Govt Conference in November 2013., and was instrumental in arranging post conference tours for some of its delegates.

Served at Gordon Frazer & Co Ltd of the John Keells Holdings Group and subsequently as General Manager of the Industrial Machinery Business unit of Mackwoods Ltd., General Manager Mackwoods Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, Director, Mackwoods Energy PLC and Consultant to Kanmarc Travel services USA and counts over 30 years of experience in the Commercial and Mercantile Sector in Marketing and Sales.
Holds a Diploma in Marketing from the University of Colombo and is a member of the Sri Lanka institute of Marketing, Member of the institute of Certified Professional Managers Sri Lanka, Fellow Member of Institute of Management Sri Lanka and a life member of the Organization of Professional Association of Sri Lanka.

Served at Softlogic as an financial analyst specializing in capital markets and counts over 10 years of experience in trading, investment banking, accounting and finance.
Was a part of the organizing team of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board, Commonwealth Heads of Government task force in 2013 set up under Mr. Rumy Jauffer, Managing Director, SLTPB, and assisted in organizing and welcoming the guests to the conference at Cinnamon Grand, Commonwealth Trade Exhibition and Banquet at the Parliamentary complex plus manning the 24 hour information counter for delegates at SLTPB.
Graduated with a BSc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and also holds a MSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Colombo.
